Studio Myco were commissioned by Creative Ireland Wexford, Enniscorthy Municipal District, and the Housing Office at Wexford County Council to develop a Community-led Placemaking Vision for Bunclody. The project established a shared framework to guide future investment and development, grounded in the town’s rich history, built heritage, and the lived experience of its community.
A community-led placemaking vision rooted in Bunclody’s heritage and creative future.
The process combined detailed research with an extensive programme of creative engagement. An initial phase reviewed the relevant policy context, findings from the recent Town Health Check, and recent and planned regeneration projects. This was complemented by analysis of Bunclody’s regional setting, historic development, and urban structure, alongside an assessment of strengths, challenges, opportunities, and threats.
Engagement was central to shaping the vision. Studio Myco delivered a creative engagement programme that included a public stall, collaborative town walk, school workshop, survey, and community event, reaching a wide cross-section of residents and stakeholders. These activities helped reconnect people with Bunclody’s built heritage, build local pride in what the town could become, and generate ideas for how future development could better reflect local character and needs.
The completed Placemaking Vision sets out a shared long-term vision for Bunclody in 2050, supported by a series of themes, objectives, and proposals for key projects and supporting actions. An accompanying action plan identifies potential funding streams, next steps, and early opportunities for delivery, providing a practical and community-centred roadmap to shape the look, feel, and identity of Bunclody as it evolves.
